Welcome to Santa Gertrudis Counseling page!
I am MariaElena Gonzalez AKA Nena Gonzalez. I am proud to introduce myself as the Interim Counselor at Santa Gertrudis School. My job as a school counselor is to focus on three main domains which are: Academic, College/Career, and Social/Emotional. This year I will be working with students individually, small groups and in group presentations. My goal is to provide my students with a welcoming and accepting environment.
My life has taken me to several states. I grew up in Bishop, Texas until my parents moved us to the Pacific Northwest where I attended Burlington Edison High School in Burlington, Washington. I came back to Texas my senior year and graduated from Bishop High School. I attended Coastal Bend College and Texas A&M University Kingsville where I received my Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies. I have been with the Santa Gertrudis school district for six years where I have taught fourth and fifth grade.
I am currently in my last semester of the Masters Program where I am studying Guidance and Counseling. I am currently enjoying my role where I strive to encourage all the students to do their personal best. I am thrilled to be working with the students, teachers, administrators, and parents whom I so highly regard.
My spare time is spent with my husband, Coach Matt Gonzalez and our three children. Our oldest daughter , Alyssa, is a Junior and our son, Matthew is a Sophomore at Santa Gertrudis Academy High School. Our baby, Sarina is a seventh grader at Santa Gertrudis School. Most of our time is spent either on the field or on a court as our children are very involved in sports and my husband is a coach. We enjoy our time spent here at the district as this is where our extended family is.
