Special Programs

• Special Education Services are offered through IDEA for students with disabilities. If you suspect an undiagnosed disability, please contact Susan Wise or your campus principal. The district is required to do Child Find, which is locating any child from birth to 21 who may have a disability. If you know of such a child residing within SGISD, please contact Susan Wise or your campus principal. • No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
  The Title programs fall under this law, and we have a district-wide federal program for the purpose of preventing students from being At-Risk of dropping out of school. Also, parents are allowed to know the credentials of teachers under this law, along with requiring Parent-Teacher conferences.

• English as a Second Lanugage - Any student, who has a home language other than English and has been identified at Limited English Proficient, shall be served in an English as a Second Language setting. • Gifted & Talented - The state of Texas provides for a program of instruction for those students who have been identified as gifted or talented in a specific strand of academic area. Visit the Texas GT website.

• Dyslexia is a disorder that is manifested in a difficulty learning to read, write or spell, and often has a genetic link. Diagnosis will result in a specially designed reading program. For more information, please visit www.schwablearning.org and www.dyslexia-parent.com

• Other Services -Continuing educational services are available while a mother is recuperating from child birth. Its purpose is to prevent dropping out of school.
