College Admissions

Getting students prepared to apply to colleges can be a daunting task. Keep these suggestions in mind when advising your college bound scholars.
  • START Planning NOW. Freshman year is not too early to start looking for future possibilities
  • Pick an area of study that you are truly interested in. You will be working in this field for a long time so it is imperative that you like what you do.
  • Take as many college trips as you possibly can. It is important that students get "a feel" for what type of campus they would like(small, large, coed, etc)
  • Take ACT or SAT tests early. This way if you need to work toward that goal score for the college of your choice you will not runout of time.
  • Apply early. Lots of colleges and universities do not require early admission; however, early admission allows for student to be automatically selected for university scholarships based on academic standing.
  • Do a FAFSA. Many times parents do not want to do a FAFSA because they "make too much money". Lots of campus scholarships may not take your FAFSA numbers into account but they do require to know them for documentation purposes. Don't lose out on the possibilty of free money every little bit helps.
  • Don't make a hasty decision. Wait until all financial aid and early scholarships are awarded. Contact any school's financial aid office to discuss your economic situation. They are always willing to help. Make sure your ability to continue paying tuition after the freshman year, typically this is the year that most campus wide scholarships are given. Take all of these things into consideration before a decision is made. It is all about options!
